Where Do I Buy a Laptop from?

October 31st, 2009 · No Comments

When you buy a notebook computer, you are presented with a ton of choices. All the laptop brands, specifications and options seem endless. Fortunately you can do some research to cover that. Figuring out whether to buy online or in-store can be an equally daunting task. If you spend some time to learn the difference between these version of retailers and how to choose the best notebook for your needs and wants, you will be just fine.

Online retailers generally charge lower prices on the actual laptop because they do not have all the normal costs of brick-and-mortar retailers. They do typically charged shipping, and sometimes a handling fee as well. These can add up. In-store retailers have to pay the large amounts for rent, and therefore might end up charging a little more. You are able to test computers in person, and see how they work for you.

In-store and online retailers are pros and cons, and it is a good idea to keep those in mind when shopping. One way to ensure you get the perfect computer at the best price is to combine both experiences into one. There are 4 basic steps to this.

Step 1: You need to go look at laptops at some local retailers to get an idea of pricing and availability. After you do notebook computer research, and feel comfortable in what you are looking for, visit several stores to test computers. Make a note of the ones you like, writing down the name, price, model number and positive/negative reactions to it.

Step 2: Online research is your next task. You want to make sure that the in-store retailers you visited are not offering any special deals online. Visit their websites and look up the laptops you saw, noting any price differences. Make sure to include shipping and any promotions, such as free shipping to your local store.

Step 3: Next, you want to take your search online. Search for online laptop retailers in Yahoo or Google, and go to the websites of a few that look quality. Look up the laptops you saw in Step 1, and note shipping costs, prices, and the website you found it on for each one.

Step 4: This is where you want to compare the information you found. You will have prices for online retailers, in-store retailers, and the in-store retailers’ websites. While it might be clear which one literally has the lowest price, you also want to take into consideration the other things that are important. Being able to return or an item, or have something fixed that breaks, is something to keep in mind. Make your choice based on both price and these other factors.

Understanding in-store and online retailers and how to find the best price between them is the perfect way to find the right laptop at the right price. You have to do quality research on notebook computers before you begin looking for a laptop, otherwise you might buy the laptop that is incorrect for your needs and wants. This could require you to have to buy a new laptop in the future. Proper research ahead of time will help you to get the right laptop as well as save you money down the road.
